When your quartz battery operated pocket watch is no longer telling the correct time it may be the perfect time to replace the battery. Each of our pocket watches takes the same size battery which is a button cell battery size AG4/LR626 which is available in most high streets and online. Here are detailed instructions of the best method for replacing the battery:
The tool needed to change the battery is pictured below, the best tool to prize open the back of the pocket watch where the battery is contained is a small flat blade screwdriver. You can also use a blunt knife or spoon but be careful as using the wrong size tool can leave scratches in the metal.
Pictured below is the gap at the side of the pocket watch where you are able to fit the flat blade screwdriver into. This gap allows leverage to open the back of the pocket watch case.
Carefully prize off the back plate of the pocket watch case by turning the screwdriver slightly in a clockwise motion. The back should come off.
Next you should see a plastic frame that holds the battery and pocket watch mechanism in place. Remove this carefully by pulling it from its metal housing.
Use the screwdriver flat blade to lift the metal clip that holds the cell battery in place. The battery should pop out. Replace the battery and secure the metal clip back onto the new battery.
The battery usually lasts for 6 to 8 months depending on usage but could last longer.
Replace the plastic frame over the pocket watch mechanism.
Replace the back plate of the pocket watch and make sure it has clicked into place otherwise if not secure it can come off during use.
Pull the top dial and turn to arrange hands to the correct time then push the dial back in place to set the time. When watch is not in use it is best to store it in the gift box that is provided.
